The 2024 SunBet Poker Tour GrandWest Series has officially come to an end, and what a series it was! With over R30 million in prize money awarded, this event became the biggest and most prestigious poker series in South African history.

The Main Event: A Historic Moment

The highlight of the series, the R4 Million Guaranteed Main Event, smashed expectations, amassing a prize pool of over R6.3 million thanks to an incredible 504 entries.

In a thrilling conclusion, Mauritius-based Saurabh Gulati emerged victorious after a three-way deal, taking home the largest share of the prize pool. However, it was Diane Walker who made history with her outstanding performance.

Diane Walker’s Remarkable Run
Walker’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. She won her Main Event seat via a satellite and went on to secure 2nd place, earning R800,000—the best-ever performance by a woman in South African poker history. Walker’s run has set a new benchmark and proved that poker is a game where skill and determination shine through. 

In addition to Diane Walker’s record-breaking run, Ronit Chamani became the second woman to reach the Main Event final table, creating an unprecedented moment in South African poker history. Chamani’s incredible performance earned her a 3rd place finish and R900,000, solidifying her as one of the country’s top poker talents.
Together, Diane Walker and Ronit Chamani showcased the growing prominence of women in poker, breaking barriers and inspiring players across the continent.

Super High Roller: This high-stakes event saw Joey Weissman from the USA claim the top prize of R1,028,000, with a stacked field and intense competition.

THMC Cape Town Million: The second edition of this iconic event drew 299 entries, creating a prize pool of R2,009,280. Local hero Muaaz Gani took home the trophy after a heads-up deal.
